Do you think the subjects given at school are all of use to young ladies once they are finished with school? I am 54 years old, and most of the stuff I learnt at school, I never used once I had left school. Yet there is so much time I had spent at school, and so many things I could have been taught which would have been of more use to me. One subject that could have provided me a head start in life, would have been about herbs. Which herbs are useful as medicine, to keep your body sugar level, etc. I believe the preset education curriculum which is laid out to suit the rest of the world, is not perfect for youth of SA.
Dear Madam/Sir
I feel that you are right on the irrelavence of some of the things that we learn at the school level. I myself have a wish that subjects like philosoph, which discuss a lot of things concerning our lives, should be introduced at at least high school level. I have noticed that oir education system feeds us what the men in power wish us to chow in order to become what they want us to become, I mean become economic machines.
On your wish to have been introduced to a knowledge about the herbs, I have my opinion that it is something far down the list of the things that the architects of our education system want to feed us. I believe in the use of arts to change any mental tendency. I believe this tendency to deny to feed us knowledge for investment in our individual easiness to leave can be changed through the use of the arts to deliver the message to the men in suits that we are not 'economic machines'.
